Here’s a perfect snack for the term coined by Dan Buttner Blue zones and he was the first to write about sites in the world where people live above average.
If you had to guess Dan Buttner’s favorite fruit, what would you say? Maybe some fruits that are rich in antioxidants like blueberries? Or oranges full of vitamin C? While these are, of course, great options, Dan believes that they are the first classic fruit for a snack: bananas.
A perfect snack for Dan Buttner
In his podcast, Dan explained why he loves bananas. According to anthropological research by Buttener, the fruits make up 9% of the diet of centenarians living on the Nicoya Peninsula in the blue zone of Costa Rica. And bananas are the main foods in this category, offering a variety of health benefits that vary depending on the ripeness of the fruit itself.
- Green bananas contain pectin and starch, which act as a prebiotic.
- Yellow bananas contain less starch and at this stage it becomes a simple sugar. They also contain a large amount of fiber.
- Brown and ripe bananas have the highest amount of simple sugars, but also the highest level of antioxidants.
In addition to its nutritional value, Dan loves bananas because they are very convenient to eat.
– They come pre-packaged. In addition, they are cheap, delicious and can be bought anywhere, he said.
Dan added that accessibility is one of the most important elements of a healthy diet.
